Title: IT Manager

The IT Manager is responsible for the overall management, administration, security, and strategic direction of the organization’s technology infrastructure. This position provides leadership for all information technology operations, including network administration, cybersecurity, cloud services, telecommunications, end-user support, vendor management, and technology planning.
The IT Manager ensures the organization’s technology systems are secure, reliable, and aligned with operational goals while supporting staff across multiple locations. The position supervises IT personnel, develops technology standards and procedures, manages technology projects, and works collaboratively with leadership to identify and implement technology solutions that enhance organizational effectiveness.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & Management
- Manage and supervise IT staff, including Systems Administrators, Help Desk personnel, and other technology support roles.
- Establish departmental goals, priorities, and performance expectations.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and professional development opportunities for IT team members.
- Participate in hiring, onboarding, evaluations, and disciplinary processes for IT staff.
- Develop and maintain IT policies, procedures, and operational standards.
Infrastructure & Systems Administration
- Oversee the administration and maintenance of Microsoft Windows Server environments, Active Directory, Office 365, Exchange, SharePoint, Teams, and related technologies.
- Ensure the availability, performance, and security of servers, workstations, network infrastructure, and cloud-based services.
- Manage system backups, disaster recovery planning, and business continuity initiatives.
- Oversee deployment, configuration, and lifecycle management of hardware, software, and mobile devices.
- Monitor and maintain surveillance systems, telecommunications equipment, and related technologies.
Cybersecurity & Compliance
- Develop and maintain cybersecurity policies, standards, and best practices.
- Monitor security systems, antivirus solutions, email security, web filtering, and endpoint protection platforms.
- Coordinate vulnerability assessments, security audits, and remediation efforts.
- Ensure compliance with organizational, regulatory, and funding agency technology requirements.
- Lead incident response efforts related to cybersecurity events and technology outages.
Strategic Planning & Project Management
- Develop and maintain a technology roadmap aligned with organizational objectives.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend solutions that improve efficiency, security, and service delivery.
- Plan and manage technology implementation projects, upgrades, and system migrations.
- Collaborate with leadership to identify technology needs and establish priorities.
Vendor & Budget Management
- Research, evaluate, and manage relationships with technology vendors and service providers.
- Negotiate contracts, licensing agreements, maintenance agreements, and service-level expectations.
- Assist with development and management of the IT budget.
- Monitor technology expenditures and recommend cost-effective solutions.
End-User Support
- Ensure timely and effective support for staff experiencing technical issues.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, user guides, and training materials.
- Coordinate technology training and user adoption initiatives.
- Maintain high standards of customer service and communication throughout the organization.
Communication & Collaboration
- Effectively communicate technical concepts to non-technical staff and leadership.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for organizational technology initiatives.
- Collaborate with department leaders to assess technology needs and improve business processes.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Business Technology, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
- Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible IT experience.
- Two (2) or more years of supervisory or leadership experience.
- Experience administering Microsoft Windows Server environments, Active Directory, Office 365, Exchange, SharePoint, and Teams.
- Experience with virtualization technologies such as Hyper-V.
- Experience with network infrastructure including LAN/WAN, DNS, DHCP, VPN, wireless networking, and firewall administration.
- Experience with cybersecurity tools and best practices.
- Strong project management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Preferred
- Industry certifications such as Microsoft, CompTIA Security+, Network+, Azure Administrator, or similar.
- Experience in a nonprofit, healthcare, education, or multi-site environment.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure, endpoint management, and disaster recovery planning.
- Experience with enterprise management platforms.
- Bilingual a plus but not required for position.

- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat, wet/humid, and dry conditions.
- Walking on uneven surfaces around the HEP campus.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally; routine lifting of technology equipment may be required.
- Position requires sitting, standing, bending, reaching, twisting, and walking throughout organizational facilities.
- Occasional work in equipment rooms, network closets, and other confined spaces.
- May require occasional evening or weekend work during system upgrades, emergencies, or special projects.
- Ability to travel between organizational locations as needed.
- Must be able to pass a Level 1 background, drug and alcohol screenings.
